Walking Woman

This lifelike statue of a woman striding purposefully north up Colchester High Street is paired with Man with Cup,1.4m. high, mounted on a ledge 4m above the ground in an adjacent side alley. Sean Henry specialises in creating realistic images of people. The Colchester Gazette quotes the sculptor’s comment that ‘These two sculptures, although based on real people, are deliberately anonymous and set out to celebrate our united humanity. They will share the public space of the High Street with us and so offer the viewer something to identify with, to ask questions about and hopefully relate to.’

The sculpture, Walking Woman, was created by Henry in 2008. This cast unveiled in 2017 is one of an edition of five. The first was installed in 2008 at the central headquarters of Standard Chartered Bank headquarters, One Basinghall Avenue, London. Three further casts were then installed, one at Ekebergparken, Oslo, Norway in 2013; another on the station forecourt at Bad Homburg, Germany in 2016 and the last in Victoria Square, Woking, Surrey in 2019.
