Born in Edinburgh, he studied at Harrogate College of Art and Leeds Polytechnic, graduating in 1985. His work is almost entirely focused on equestrian subject matter, with a particular concern for the relationship between horse and rider, the physical, emotional and philosophical aspects of which are explored through drawings and prints before being realised sculpturally. The bulk of his commissioned work has been for private collectors, but also includes six ceramic and two large bronze variants on the Horse and Rider theme for the P&O cruise liner Ventura (2007).
